 A short ramble by Pete I first thought of building a Discworld site about 8 years ago as there didn't seem to be any sites covering the series where you could get the latest news and chat with other fans. There are certainly a lot of small sites out there but they seem to be scattered far and wide, so I decided to build a hub (pardon the pun) to eventually expand upon with other bits of information and nifty features as suggested by you, the fans of the series. Due to other stuff (real life can be such a pain in the backside) it's been designed, shelved, redesigned, shelved and eventually built in a very short space of time now that I've got 8 more years of experience designing websites, but now it's here! I originally bought the domain name for this site at about the same time as the idea popped into my head to build it, having to search for a few hours for a good name that hadn't already been taken. I eventually fell back on the line from Small Gods and it seemed quite a fitting choice since one of the ideas behind this site is to spread the word about the Discworld. So what's it all about then? Well, first and foremost, the site is here for the fans of the series. Myself and the other staff intend to keep the news updated from various sources aorund the intnenet - at the time of writing this there's one live-action TV adaptation in the works and talk of a feature film (by Sam Raimi no less) in the near future, so there's lots going on! We're going to be digging out more interviews and links as we find them, as well as sending out a fairly regular newsletter which you're welcome to sign up to which will feature news and events related to the series. There'll also be fairly regular competitions - we're starting with small prizes for now, but hope that as the site grows we'll be able to do prize piles (goodies, not the other sort) and so forth. The main hub of activity on the site will be the forums though (we hope!). They're a place for fans to chat about the series, and pretty much anything else within reason, in the company of other fans. That's about it really.
