Greetings weary traveller and welcome to The Turtle Moves - Discworld fansite and, with your help, some duck tape and a fair amount of hope, community hub. We hope you'll take a look around, see the sights, sign up for our sporadically-timed email newsletters and perhaps even join in with the fun and games on our forum. We're currently running a competition to win a copy of Going Postal on DVD and I Shall Wear Midnight on their respective release dates. There's also a runner-up prize of another copy of the DVD. If you haven't already entered and would like to be in with a chance, head on over to our competitions page and email us the answer to the simple question in which Discworld novel was the Post Office's motto "Neither Rain nor Snow nor Glo m of Ni t..." first seen? At the time of writing this, with the current number of entries there's a 2 in 3 chance of winning something, so it's definitely worth a shot! In a rather varied news piece over at PJSM Prints, Terry as revealed that he's already well underway with writing the next Discworld novel. Quote: So here we are basking in the sunlit uplands and find ourselves already some 20,000 words into the next adult Discworld book, based largely around Vimes, with the working title Snuff. A word that has, as you probably know, at least two meanings. Remember, you read it here first!
http://www.paulkidby.com/news/index.html Quote: Amazingly, Unseen Academicals is very nearly completion, only requiring one of those most magical of creatures – a five day working week with no other interruptions. But it’s well over 100,000 words and we hope to get it in no later a week after deadline, which by publishing standards is pretty nifty.
Work on I Shall Wear Midnight will, in theory, begin immediately, but will probably be held up by the necessity to tidy up the office so we can at least find the kitchen. And the floor.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00...Episode_1/ Available on the BBC iPlayer until the 18th of Feb, 2009, Living with Alzheimers follows a completely unbowed Pratchett as he pootles about finding out about his brain, the condition, and possible cures. This is episode one, number two (hur hur) follows on the 11th of Feb, 2009, BBC 2, 9 pm. Also available (until 10th Feb, 2009) is a BBC Radio 5 Live show, hosted by Colin Paterson (standing in for Simon Mayo), who talks to Pterry about his brain (Terry's, not Paterson's). http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00...3_02_2009/ And may the Hogfather bless you with a very large packet of boar sausages. New Discworld book! I really should try and stay on top of the news. http://www.thebookseller.co.uk/in-depth/...umour.html Quote: Despite the disease, the subsequent media blizzard, and his appearance at an Alzheimer's conference ("Personally I'd eat the arse out of a dead mole if it offered a fighting chance," he memorably said), Pratchett has already started on the next Discworld novel, Unseen Academicals. It satirises the world of football - "Jesus, though, how could you satirise modern football? Talk about a target-rich environment" - in the same manner as Making Money took on banking, and The Truth took on journalism.
Den of Geek have interviewed Rhianna about her script for Overlord on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Read it HERE Source: www.pjsmprints.com http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7141458.stm Quote: Author Terry Pratchett is suffering from a rare form of early Alzheimer's disease, it has been revealed.
In swift succession to our previous news post on a similar theme, it appears that Sky One have created a website for The Colour of Magic. It's looking rather nice and features what will hopefully be an oft-updated blog and photo gallery, as well as some other neat items including an updated cast list and some nice facts about Terry and Discworld. Apparently Moist von Lipwig has discovered the joys of the interweb and his latest tale has it's very own website courtesy of Harper Collins - the book's US publisher. There's a challenge (though it's hard to work out if there's a prize), some information and a link to Moist on Myspace - proof that everyone's on a social networking site nowadays!
