Terry's Brain

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00...Episode_1/

Available on the BBC iPlayer until the 18th of Feb, 2009, Living with Alzheimers follows a completely unbowed Pratchett as he pootles about finding out about his brain, the condition, and possible cures. This is episode one, number two (hur hur) follows on the 11th of Feb, 2009, BBC 2, 9 pm.

Also available (until 10th Feb, 2009) is a BBC Radio 5 Live show, hosted by Colin Paterson (standing in for Simon Mayo), who talks to Pterry about his brain (Terry's, not Paterson's).

RE: Terry's Brain

Aww, I feel bad about what's happening to Terry Pratchett Sad
I didn't get to watch the rest of the first program (power cut) but did they have any good news about the condition?

RE: Terry's Brain

There are drugs which can alleviate or stop the condition worsening. However, these are not yet available on the NHS (due to cost). This may change in the future.

As for an outright cure, a researcher on the program states that they are getting closer. I can imagine Terry's £500k donation has helped a tad.

RE: Terry's Brain

Missed the first part, but caught the second.

Must say, I'm not sure I could be optimistic about potentially eventually going to a care home, but there is something to be said for what one of the people he talked to said - something along the lines of their loved one being happy there, and if Alzheimer's leaves you living only the present and not remembering the past, then being happy in the present really doesn't sound all that bad of a way to live out your days.

Good program, very informative (didn't really know much at all about Alzheimer's before watching).

On a vaguely related note, I want Terry's computer setup. 6 monitors? Sounds good to me Smile

RE: Terry's Brain

Ace, isn't it? Bit of an extreme solution to get around minimising windows, but if I was minted I'd do it too.

TBH, I think in the early stages I'd react similarly, and just be totally motivated by anger, but if it got really bad and my mind was all over t' place like a madwoman's shite, I'd want to be shot.

Simple choice of plain or custard flavour shotgun cartridge and goodnight.
